[MUSIC] Delilah - "Delilah Sings Sarah + 1( A Tribute to Sarah Vaughn)"

Jazz music is an art form that inspires many emotions,
and can ease them depending on the artist. In the case
of Delilah, she manages to accomplish both with a deft
turn and an enthralling voice. The singer, born in Hungary,
has always had music be a part of her life thanks to being
able to perform with one of the country’s foremost musicians
at a young age. Being part of the family group that was
part of the Roma musician Bongo Margit prepared her for
further work and collaborations with other artists. In a sad
turn of events, Delilah and her family had to leave Hungary
over ethnic tensions and took up residence in Toronto, Canada
which remains her home today. There, she flourished as a 
remarkable jazz vocalist that has evoked great acclaim from
critics and fans alike. This has led to the release of her EP,
“Delilah Sings Sarah + 1 ( A Tribute to Sarah Vaughn)” Delilah
counts the legendary Sarah Vaughn as one of her inspirations,
and it shows mightily on this album. Her voice is bold, moving
and elegantly strikes a gentle mood from the first note. The EP
consists of three covers of Sarah Vaughn standards as well as 
the last song, ‘Smile’ which was taken from the great Charlie
Chaplin’s movie ‘Modern Times’ and given lyrics some twenty
years after its release. Delilah makes these songs her own in
soothing fashion. ‘Whatever Lola Wants’ seethes and teases, 
and ‘September In The Rain’ is simply masterful as it’s imbued
with the singer’s own positively sunny outlook on life. It’s safe
to say that this is not only a fine tribute, but a very solid effort
from a singer we’ll be sure to hear from years down the line. The

[MUSIC] The Unraveling - 'Revolt'

We all want the chance at time, to get away from the 
things that bind us. To rage against routine. And so, we
often turn to music to help us channel that frustration.
In the case of the latest single by The Unraveling, it’s less
of a want than a declared need. ‘Revolt’ comes courtesy
of the band hailing from Canada, Calgary to be exact. It 
also marks a sturdy return since the lead vocalist, Steve
Moore, had to undergo an extended hiatus for personal
reasons. Both he and Gustavo de Beauville, producer and
co-founder of the group, team up again to give listeners
a blistering and seething track in advance of their upcoming
album. ‘Revolt’ is insistent as it is irresistible once the first
roaring chords open the song. de Beauville’s production
is a formidable mixture of raging guitars and harmonies
that flex from despair into near atmospheric hope. It gives
Moore’s vocals, chock full of edgy lyrics that pause at the
brink of dystopia, a steel gauntlet to drive the message home.

[MUSIC] Winchester Revival - "Burden's Landing"

The night brings a lot out of you if you let it. There’s a
pulsating, restless tone to it for those who cherish it so.
And that sets the mood for the new EP release from 
Winchester Revival, Burden’s Landing. The group calls
Oakland, California home, and became the unit they 
are after stints with other groups. Their combined pool
of experience is what undercuts this EP, and it makes for
an enthralling listen. Their sound is a steady mixture of 
alternative rock, electronica a la Boards Of Canada and 
some post-modern punk thrown in that is fully formed
from the ground up without any air of being too polished.
You get that feel from the first chords of ‘Last Night In
Tokyo’, a stirring song that conveys all the warmth and 
rush of the neon lights of the Ginza district. The electronic
appeal steps up most on ‘Diligence’, a tone poem swaddled
in crisp keys. What really makes the EP bold is that fluid
harmony all of the band members have on each track. It
truly conveys the hustle and pace of the nightlife. One should
have no doubt that Burden’s Landing is going to be part of
nocturnal soundtracks everywhere. Check the entire EP

[MUSIC] Attik Door - "Never In Agreement"

Change can be rough overall, but those who are
capable can harness all of the burdensome parts
and channel it into something greater. That looks
to be the spirit behind the latest album by Attik
Door. The hard rock group knows about change;
each of the five members hails from various sections
of Russia, and they all now call San Francisco home.
Never In Agreement comes after the band’s various
appearances at festivals throughout California. 

Never In Agreement roars out of the gate from the
beginning. “Bleed” is a jagged pill of a track, with 
the vocals of Liana Tovmasayan sounding off like 
heavy raindrops on a car’s hood. With “Snorting 
Headlines”, you get a clear sense of the group’s 
take on the constant barrage of news headlines
and shows taking a toll on the public.”Moody” is a
track that really features exceptional drumming 
that pointedly sets a somber atmosphere. Attik
Door conveys a sharp sound that combines the 
best of rapidly moving alternative rock, along with
some folk sensibilities that one wouldn’t catch 
initially. That speaks to the harmony the band 
has achieved, and proves that despite the album’s
title, Attik Door is fully in agreement on giving 
the public solid music. The album is available now

[MUSIC] Return For Refund

Good rock & roll clamors for the attention of your eardrums,
but does so through its established presence. It’s tougher to
do when it’s your debut album. But for Return For Refund, 
they manage to pull off both tasks in very decent fashion.
The trio, based out of Toronto, Canada, has burst onto the 
scene with a sound that’s fresh and spontaneous. This is a 
reflection of how the band came to be in 2013; Frontman
Drew Clementino wound up in a cover band with fellow 
guitarist Sasha Molotkow. They clicked, and soon left that
band to do their own thing. In another beneficial turn, Molotkow
wound up reconnecting with Karlis Hawkins, another former
bandmate from high school who had moved back to Toronto
from Halifax. And so, Return For Refund came to be. 

The EP shows how all three have united to create a crisp
sound. “TV Light” finds Clementino’s voice sonorous and 
sharp as the charging guitars flail at a sizzling tempo.”Yolo”
is rollicking enough to match its trendy title. “Between The
Sheets” is a great centerpiece for the album, with all of the
members really shining to create a song that lets you lose
yourself within the chords. With a solid following being built
up throughout the collegiate crowd in Canada, Return For
Refund is making sure you won’t have any reason to turn
their music away. The EP is available now through their

[MUSIC] CommonUnion59 - "Heartbeat Serenade"

Folk music, for some listeners, isn’t solely music 
but a vessel for them to coalesce all of the emotions
and memories they hold tightly onto. It takes a 
certain mixture of vulnerability and confidence to
bring that out of people on the part of the artist, 
and in the case of CommonUnion59, this trait is
a bonafied asset brought to illuminating fruition on
their debut CD, Heartbeat Serenade. CommonUnion59
is the singer/songwriter duo of Laura Malasig and
Stephen McKenzie. Hailing from the Bay Area, the
artists met by chance and found themselves highly
complementing each other in music - and in love.
Heartbeat Serenade is the culmination of that
journey.

CommonUnion59’s sound is tranquil throughout
the album. The opening track, ‘It’s Alright’, is a
breezy number that graces the ears thanks to
Malasig’s soothing vocals in conjunction with those
of McKenzie’s. Their harmony is a true cornerstone
of every song. “From Where We Are” is a frolic,
with guitars making the song shimmer as the
centerpiece. “This Universe” is a potent commentary
on the wonders of how we are all connected, put
forth in easy lyricism and made more poignant
by their voices. Heartbeat Serenade will be available
to the public on February 11th, and since love is
the crux of this album and the group, it’s timing is
perfect.

[MUSIC] Liz Graham - 'Charcoal On A Canvas'

When you hear songs about love as a form
of art, it’s all about just how connected you
feel to that metaphor…and how well the
artist or artists ensure that connection. In
the case of the latest single from singer and
songwriter Liz Graham, it brings that idea
forth in a gentle and charming way. This is
not totally out of the blue. Graham has a 
treasure trove of musical experience, with
being recognized multiple times as an outstanding
performer by ASCAP and co-writing as well
as singing ‘Daylight’, featured in Dreamworks’
2013 motion picture ‘The Fifth Estate.’

‘Charcoal On A Canvas’ daubs a picture of
the beginnings of love; specifically getting
to know someone. Graham utilizes a poet’s
deft touch in the lyrics, and her voice falls
upon your ears like snowflakes on the surface
of a pond. Her guitar work provides a calm
backdrop that lays itself alongside the drums
like lace doilies on a favored couch in the
home of a loved one. ‘Charcoal On A Canvas’
is the first single release in anticipation of
her upcoming second album due this year,
