[MUSIC] BASECAMP

There’s a new sound asserting itself out of Nashville,
Tennessee. And that sound is gripping, soulful and
tenuous to the ears. BASECAMP is a trio of producers
that draw from varied influences like UK garage and
landscape-like R&B to create music that is instantly
engaging the moment you hear it. Their self-titled
debut EP has enraptured many with haunting lyrics
draped with production that takes you in and out of
many moods within minutes. From the bittersweet
and electronically charged ‘2 Thingz’ to the outright
wistfulness of ‘Smoke Filled Lungs’, this EP is both a
stirring debut and possibly a new nuanced trail in
R&B. Get the album at the link below.

[MUSIC] Stephano Gavilanes - 'Like Reality'

In a world where some are more addicted to constructed ideas
of reality than what reality truly is, it leads to illusion being the
norm for them. In the case of Like Reality by New York City
artist Stephano Gavilanes, EDM is the tool at hand to shed
better light on this. Like Reality is a commentary on society
has embraced artificiality to the point where lines have blurred.
Every track speaks to that in a different way. The album’s sound
veers from 8-bit trippy to pulsating in harmony. ‘24kt’ is a
gyrating track with rich tones reflective of Daft Punk. ‘Normal
Bias’ gives you bass, and plenty of it in a downtempo way.
The track is somber, but not so somber that you won’t pick
up on the rhythm. ‘Playgrounds’ is a digitized sunburst, the
synths light and crisp throughout. Like Reality is a cherished
project and a reminder to not be so trapped up in what some
would have you think is important. The album is available
now, and comes with a digital comic as well.

[MUSIC] Joe Blessett - 'Changing Everything'

Jazz is an art form that is supposed to bring you into
a heightened state of ease when done with precision
and style. For Joe Blessett, Changing Everything, his
sixth album, jazz in his hands becomes an easy chair
crafted with Tuscan leather. From the title track, you
get how Blessett really takes great pains to make sure
his music isn’t run of the mill. The hip-hop influenced
drumming provides a stirring backdrop to the lilting of
the saxophone, all tied together neatly with the calm
hum of the bass. ‘Anna Mae’s Place’ is juke-joint fresh,
with organs punctuating suave guitars underneath
Joe’s wailing on the sax. Blessett gives us a true gem
though, with ‘Talking To Miles’. This song is breezy
but focused, and it takes a while before you can really
get all of the accents displayed here which adds to its
value. Changing Everything is one album that you will
find does so while paying homage to and building on
what came before in a genteel fashion.

[MUSIC] CharlieRED - "MUSE"

This is a new project from CharlieRED, a duo out of New York
City with a sound guaranteed to be uniquely expressive. The
two man team of Cobaine Ivor on production and Rocki Evans,
who handles vocals and songwriting have gotten some early
buzz. And working with that momentum plus some random
inspiration, they’ve put together an album entitled simply,
MUSE. The album is free until September 3rd. Their sound
aims to not be constrained by genre and you may find they’ve
succeeded between Rocki’s primal but sensitive singing and
Cobaine’s instrumentation. MUSE begins with words from a
homeless man that tie this whole project together with some
profound and profane thoughts. ‘Travel Light’ is made for the
intelligent nomad, with vocals that seem to kick up emotions
like gravel on a highway. ‘Lovely’ is three a.m. bluesy, like
the tail end of a house party where you’re between sleep
and euphoria. MUSE is a grand project that shows just how
inspiration can guide you if you let it lead.

[MUSIC] The Gabriel Construct - 'Interior City'

Inside of all of us lies a maze of moods. Some of them are murky,
hard to decipher. And yet, they are vital to us. That is the epicenter
of Interior City, the new release by The Gabriel Construct. This
album is a primal tone poem, conceived by Gabriel Luis Riccio. In
each track lies a pottage of progressive rock, metal and psychedelic
rock that could serve as a post-apocalyptic soundtrack. For example,
‘Defense Highway’ is a sizable song, full of Riccio’s haunting vocals
laid over colliding bass shreds and frenzied drums. “Subway Dwellers”
flaunts excellent string melodies and charging guitars as the backdrop
for transients who make the underground home. It really brings you
up close to the mire. “Fear Of Humanity” is brooding, but not in a way
that deters you from enjoying Riccio’s fine keyboard work. Interior
City stands forth with a primal scream to shake musical boundaries
for their own good, if you travel its maze of moods well enough. The
album is available on iTunes and Amazon.

[MUSIC] Jason Bonthron - 'Cyclops'

There’s moments when in order to really see through a lot that
may be clouding your way, you need to expand your vision. And
that is what lies at the heart of Cyclops, the solo album from the
former bass player for the reggae band Smoove, Jason Bonthron.
This effort is the culmination of two years honing his sound and
playing throughout his native state of New Jersey. Cyclops is an
album where post-punk becomes translucent, allowing you to
sift through moods like grains of sand falling through your fingers.
Joined by another vocalist, Danielle Stauss, Bonthron makes the
music light but edgy. On ‘AM Radio’, you get that feel of driving
down the Shore, the sunlight peeking over the horizon. “Say
Goodbye” is breathy, but full as Bonthron’s vocals skip over a
staggered drum and a few banjo chords strumming along. With
“Skate Rat”. Stauss and Bonthron go at it with fervor, Stauss’
vocals zigzagging with style over Bonthron’s frenzied bass. With
Cyclops, Bonthron seeks to have you see his vision free and
clear. Check out the rest of his album on his website:

[MUSIC] Beijing - 'Night'

Ever have those days where you just feel like the underbelly of
a few gathering storm clouds drifting through the sky? If you
can relate, then there may be some solace to be found in music
that aptly conveys this feeling for you. And Beijing seeks to do
that with Night, their first full-length album. The band hails from
New Haven, Connecticut, drawing their musical sound from that
period of 1990’s alternative rock that dripped with melancholy
like an shot glass of Jack Daniel’s overflowing at a dive bar. Having
gotten together in the spring of 2011, they proceeded to make
a huge name for themselves with a four-song EP, It’s Not So
Simple
. That led to a great deal of buzz, culminating in their
being named best underground band of the year by Beatcrave.com.

From the first track, you are sucked into the aura of the album.
It feels just like a balmy night, signalling the onset of spring but
still holding a chill of the past.  ‘Into The Rain’ harkens back to
those same melodies of beautiful discord once heard with the
Smashing Pumpkins, with drums fighting with the layers of
vocals and cascading guitar chords just like a sudden rainfall.
‘Wax Wings’ is airy, with tempo changes that don’t shake you
out of rhythm, but hold you there with every note. ‘Broken
Glass’ is rich with a harmony that pulsates but doesn’t fully
overpower until the chorus comes in. With Night, Beijing is
poised to cut through the remaining clouds of doubt about
their music and create a storm all their own. The album is
available at their Bandcamp site, listed below.

[MUSIC] Glass Gang - "Waves'

New group out of Brooklyn, not much else is known about them YET.
Except their first offering, ‘Waves’ which is downright groovy.
