[MUSIC] G2P - "G2P EP"

Fresh from the heartland of Florida, Tampa to
be exact, comes a gritty addition to the wide
world of alternative rock known as G2P. The
trio of Nathaniel Shepard, Sterling Sigfried and
Matt Mallory have performed together since
2011, and the band has enjoyed a steady rise
to prominence. This has included appearances
on local and national radio shows, festivals like
the Cleveland Music Festival and has led to the
group snagging a recording deal with Capitol.
As a prelude to a full album this year, G2P EP
was released in August 2014.

The EP stomps through the eardrums from
the first track. Shepard proves to have a
good presence with his lead vocals, most
notably on ‘Walk Away’. He sings and the
charging guitars seem to be a snake that is
charmed by his voice, winding in harmony.
‘Me’ quivers with ska underpinnings that
is guaranteed to please a crowd. ‘Rain’ closes
out the EP nicely, with Mallory’s bass work
holding a solid tempo without changing the
overall tone of the track. G2P’s first foray
is sharp and is a nice appetizer for what’s
to come. Check out their Bandcamp page
to get the album.

[MUSIC] Simon Field - "Gravity" (w/Easton Davis)

As winter sets in and you’re looking to set the
dance floor on fire somewhere, odds are you
might do so with the help of the latest track
from Simon Field. The Oslo, Norway native has
built up a large following thanks to his skilled
songwriting and production in the genre of
deep house, netting him consistent airplay on
Norway’s national radio as well as consistent
placement on television shows such as Ugly
Betty and Californication. He also has worked
with Sony Music Group and Concord Music
Group. This latest single release shows off
Field’s production chops heartily.  ‘Gravity’
is a sonic throwback to great house tracks
from the mid 1990’s but still retains a
groove that fits well for airplay today. Davis’
vocals are confident and are embedded
well within Field’s downtempo production
that pulsates. The release also comes with
4 different remixes. A standout version comes
courtesy of Lars Van Dalen and Mike Moorish,
who take the song and give a crisp atmospheric
feel. Look out for ‘Gravity’ to be released in
the U.S. soon.

[MUSIC] The Workers - "Totem"

Whenever there are times that one has to call
upon the spirit to focus and reflect on things, there
is often one significant item that drives them to
do so. It’s fitting that Totem is the name of the
latest release from The Workers. The Workers,
composed solely of lead singer and guitarist Dan
Greenwald, (Will Hensley appears on lead guitar
with Doug Garnett on keys for this project) has
been a standout musician on the scene since 1991
and his first foray. Greenwald has also gotten
himself huge acclaim as a solo artist, winning
the ASCAPlus Popular Division Award three times
along with extensively performing throughout his
hometown metro New York area. Will Hensley has
also been responsible for mixing some of the best
recording acts out, with Coldplay and John Mayer
to name a few.

On this EP release, The Workers give you a full
dosage of a simmering blend of acoustic and
progressive rock that bears hints of Patti Smith
and REM throughout. ‘Big Time’ rolls into the
eardrums like a solitary wave on a morning shore,
with guitars and harmony remaining light in
spite of a somewhat introspective message.
‘Boomerang’ is ballad-like, its rhythms having
a slow bluegrass tinge that heightens the senses.
‘Deathrace’, despite the title is lilting in detailing
why we do so much and yet do little for ourselves
and others in this life. What Totem is, is a neat
package of music that soothes listeners fully
to their content. The EP is available now on their
Bandcamp page.

[MUSIC] Dave Plaehn - 'Radio Sister'

Dave Plehn returns to the airwaves with a
brand new album, Radio Sister, and an entirely
fresh new sound to go with it. Plaehn has
been in the spotlight for many years, with
last year’s release, Amos Got Soul receiving
a good amount of critical regard. This go-round,
Plaehn has re-fashioned his approach and has
come up with an album that emanates warmth
not unlike what you’d get listening to your radio
on a crisp fall day after the rain lets up with the
windows down. Radio Sister pulls you in by the
hand thanks to Plaehn’s confident vocals throughout,
which convey emotion without it being too sappy
or over the top. Overall, the album is laid-back
with bursts of slow blues and pop reminiscent
of classic AM on the dial. ‘I Want Love’ showcases
a reggae-tinged flair that envelops Plaehn’s vocals
like a glove. ‘Leadbelly Medley’ is an acoustic track
that lets Plaehn ramble through genres and show
off his chops neatly. ‘Hello Melinda’ is a striding
song with elements of bluegrass that would do
well on a pop chart as well as a breezy bar patio
out in Corpus Christi. What Plaehn has done here
with Radio Sister is not only demonstrate the range
born of years of musical experience, but produced
an album that’s gently engaging and magnetic.
Radio Sister is available through his Bandcamp page.

[MUSIC] i am Love

When you first get the chance to listen to the
self-titled album from i am Love, the immediate
feeling that stands out is a familiar warmth. That
warmth settles in under your ears and laps away
like waves at the edge of a beach. This is all part
of the group’s artistic aim, which speaks to a need
to generate good thought and feelings in every
note of their music. It makes sense for a band that
calls Philadelphia, Pennsylvania home. The trio of
Joshua Christopher, Will Whitmire and Kris Jackson
have honed a sound that is breathy, robust and
engaging in each track found on this effort. “Pillar
Of Salt” opens the album with a soothing tone,
punctuated by crisp vocals and buttressed by horns
that roll in like cumulus formations. “Pants On Fire”
gives off an ‘80’s feel with its rhythmic embrace.
“Finest Hour” is a multi-layered gem with low and
bluesy horns that support a chorus of hopeful voices
in contrast with the lead vocals that give you a
bittersweet tinge. What i am Love have done with
this album is not only define their sound, but laid
out a mantra for listeners. The album is set for release
on January 7th, 2015.

[MUSIC] Nate Paladino - 'Good Boy'

There are those moments where you want your
music to be as gritty as sawdust on a tavern floor,
soaking up all the feeling. That’s at the center of
this EP release by Nick Paladino, Good Boy. Hailing
from the OC, Orange County, California that is,
Paladino’s main mission with his music is to aptly
convey all of the ranges of emotion a person goes
through. Good Boy does that in a succinct style
that is laid down with an undercurrent of humor
that can be a tad dark. “Something To Prove” is
guttural, but sonorous to evoke those feelings
brought within the ‘best’ of hangovers. And on
‘Buy Your Heart’, Nick displays a gentler side in a
ballad that coasts like an offering from Richie Valens.
The EP is only 5 tracks long, but it is a full bodied
work that makes Nick’s music have that earthy
appeal. Good Boy is available now through his
website.

[MUSIC] Cold Blue Water

You can never go wrong adding a little bit of
feel-good blues to your daily routine. And in
the spirit of that kind of improvement to your
musical diet comes the self-titled debut of
Cold Blue Water. The group, which hails from
Eureka, California, will probably have you
exclaim ‘eureka’ with their EP. Their music is
an engaging hybrid of roadhouse blues and
70’s style rock not unlike The Allman Brothers.
You’ll even find a rippling underbelly of jazz
throughout. The EP consists of five tracks, but
each links together to form a terrific rhythmic
chain. ‘Catfish Blooz’ is a melodic drip, not unlike
warm honey atop a plate of biscuits. “So High”
is an enthralling tune, with moody but uplifting
guitar play. The vocals play a key part throughout,
and they drape along the combination of organs
and keys like ornate lace. Cold Blue Water do a
stand-up job and like their moniker, deliver on
a refreshing bit of music. Their album is out now,
available through their Soundcloud page
