[MUSIC] Amelia Scalies - "I Should've Known"

Amelia Scalies is a young girl with a mature sound
who is poised to add her name to the ranks of those
who delineate pop music’s current flavor. All of this
is evident on her debut album, “I Should’ve Known”.
Scalies, who hails from Pennsylvania, is only fourteen
but has been writing and performing her own music
since she was ten. Her musical talent has seen her
perform all over the Northeastern United States.
Amelia’s hard work has gotten her set up to release
this debut album with confidence.

I Should’ve Known covers a wide array of musical
influences all culminating in what makes Scalies’
sound so rich. ‘Phoenix’ cascades through the ears
like a slow rainfall with Scalies’ strident vocals and
a simple layer of lead guitars that frame rather than
overpower. ‘Don’t Let Them Win’ is notable not only
for the throbbing pace but for its message; the song
was written for those children who have borne the
brunt of bullying as a rallying cry against it. ‘Bottom
Of The Ocean’ is a wrenching ode about loneliness
and its depths. Amelia even pulls off a cover of
the My Chemical Romance’s hit’ ‘Welcome To the
Black Parade’. I Should’ve Known is a capable and
enthralling debut from a singer who’s got a lot to
offer the pop world. Her album’s available now!

[MUSIC] Slack Armada

The poet Carl Sandburg called Chicago, Illinois ‘the city
of big shoulders’ in his ode to the metropolis. And as
such, people have grown to expect big things from the
city iin every aspect. The latest example lies in the
self-titled debut album from Slack Armada. Slack Armada
is the brainchild of James Hrabak, a self-professed ‘sonic
adventurer’ who cultivated his love of music through
the genre of indie rock initially. His creative forays took
him through to electronic music, where he began to
find more room to really craft soundscapes to his liking.
What Slack Armada presents is a robust and soaring
aural experience that makes it differ from other producers
in the genre. The pulsating beats are the bedrock for
high-arching harmonies. While the EP is four tracks,
every track creates a unique aural experience. From
the opening track, ‘Your Majesty’ that evokes the same
wistful energy one would get from Boards of Canada
to the brisk ‘Looper’ with charged guitar work, Slack
Armada is a fine entrance into the world of ambient
music. The EP is available now for via iTunes, Amazon
and GooglePlay.

Ophelia Cache is quietly but boldly stepping forth
and making you take notice. The Denver, Colorado

voice.  It nestles in behind your ear and leaves you
warm like a winter scarf. Check her sound out for

[MUSIC] The Ria Reece Band

Good blues music is meant to grab you by the gullet and
make you feel whatever the singer and/or the band is
looking to get out at that moment. Joy, sorrow, even
sheer misery…it all becomes your shared experience
in their song. And The Ria Reece Band takes this very
seriously with their self-titled debut album. Hailing from
Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the quartet has put their
own stamp on the music scene up north in grand style.
They’ve established themselves as one of Montreal’s
best bands, having been invited to play at the famous
Quebec Summer Festival this past July along with getting
a chance to be heard on various radio stations throughout
Quebec and Ontario.

Ria Reece has a compelling voice, throaty with a hint
of choral grace but enough soulful grit to make the
song speak to you fluently. It flirts well with the smooth
guitar work by Andre Chevarie. Add in good bass by
Sylvain Lamothe and precise drumming by Martin
Laporte and you’ve got a great blues sound that draws
from the traditional but has a fresh tone. ‘Tell Mama’
displays this in raucous fashion, with Ria’s vocals
wrapped in Andre’s buzzing guitar work. Laporte’s
drums provide great foundation for ‘Whisper’, a soft,
lilting love ballad that lets you settle into its melancholy.
‘I’d Rather Go Blind’ is another standout piece of real
low-down blues, with Ria scraping the emotion from
every note in her vocals. This album should fit in well
with wandering nights, easy times with a jukebox
and hearts as full as the ears of this soul that Ria
Reece and her band offer up. Their album is available
now via iTunes.

[MUSIC] No Bird Sing w/Sage Francis - 'Don't Think'

Interesting single from a rising hip-hop band out of
Minneapolis, Minnesota, No Bird Sing. The band is a
trio consisting of mcee Joe Horton, drummer/producer
Graham O’Brien and guitarist/producer Robert Mulrennan.
They’ve got a new album on the way, and ‘Don’t Think’
is but a taste of what this group has to offer. An engaging
track that speaks to the different pieces of society bears
some real meditative fruit that reflects the band’s own
vision. Veteran Sage Francis gets down with them
here too. Take a listen, and note that the album is
up for pre-order.

[MUSIC] ESQUILLE - Rock This Club Down

For all of those out there who like the thrill of the club,
there’s a new addition to the soundtrack for you courtesy
of Esquille. The Stockholm, Sweden DJ has been a solid
fixture on the electronic dance music scene for quite
some time. He’s lent his talent to a number of projects
that has gotten him acclaim at home and abroad. For
this EP, Rock This Club Down, Esquille has honed his
sound sonically for the people. The overall feel of the
album is infectious in an incandescent way. The title
track is chock full of bass that bounces in a rhythmic
standoff with the pulsating synthesizers. ‘It’s A House
Thing’ grooves and undulates with well-placed vocals on
the hook amidst tight production. ‘Musica Electronica’
is nothing but hardcore energy that pushes you to
move. Esquille’s EP sets him up to remain a soldily
respected figure in EDM for years to come. Rock This
Club Down will be released on September 15th.

[MUSIC] The Rick Webster Project EP

For the changing of seasons, most prefer it to be subtle
but distinct and rich with promise. That same feeling can
be felt listening to the latest offering from jazz guitarist Rick
Webster on his latest project, The Rick Webster EP. Rick
hails from Perth, Western Austrailia and has established
himself as a noted musician on the rise, with his recent
credentials as the winner of the West Coast International
Songwriting Contest for 2013 and the winner of the jazz
category in the 2012 International John Lennon Songwriting
Contest attesting to that fact. On this EP, you see his
skills put to delectable work with the help of vocalist
Alira Wilson. The album is heartwarming and seems
to coat you just like a humid but pleasant summer
afternoon. ‘Write It For Me’ is a steady tune, Wilson’s
vocals dabbing at the ears like a paintbrush on a canvas
along with Webster’s upbeat guitar. ‘Already Mine’ is
a definite joy, reminiscent of Diana Krall but with a
touch more funk to it. The Rick Webster EP is great
album to embrace a change of pace with. And to do
so with an easy smile.
