Salma Hayek and Doha Film Institute to Adapt Khalil Gibran’s ‘The Prophet’ into Animated Movie. Each of the 89-year old classic’s chapters will be directed by a different award-winning filmmaker, with Oscar-nominated Lion King director Roger Allers co-ordinating the process.

Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet tells the story of an unlikely friendship between a young, mischievous girl and an imprisoned poet. Interwoven with Gibran’s lyrical and inspiring words on topics such as the true nature as love, work, children, and freedom, this work-in-progress screening features highlights of the animation and music. Under the direction of Roger Allers, nine segments will emerge from the hands of Joan Sfarr (Le Chat du Rabbin, The Rabbi’s Cat), Paul and Gaëtan Brizzi (The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Tarzan), Tomm Moore (Brendan et le secret de Kells, The Secret of Kells), Joan Gratz, Mohammed Saeed Harib, Nina Paley, Bill Plympton and Michel Socha.

The film will be traditionally animated, and has an amazing cast for the characters’ voices. Working with Salma Hayek are: Liam Neeson, John Krasinski, Alfred Molina and the very young Quvenzhané Wallis, who starred in Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012). We can’t wait for a trailer, check back it should be coming soon!
