This year marks the 13th anniversary of Dilla’s solo debut album, “Welcome to Detroit,”
This year New York City will hold its first official annual tribute to J Dilla, which will take place this Sunday, March 23rd at Webster Hall (125 E. 11th St). The event is headlined by Talib Kweli and hosted by Jarobi of ATCQ but to be honest, the biggest draw of the night will be a special appearance from Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey, J Dilla’s mother.
Along with surprise guests, the lineup will also include Phony Ppl, YC The Cynic, DJ Parler and live art from XPAYNE. Tickets can be purchased at websterhall.com and all proceeds go to benefit the J Dilla Foundation.
