This is an independent film shot by Dr. Jonathan Gayles,
an associate professor at Georgia State University. From
the synopsis:
'Through interviews with prominent artists, scholars and
cultural critics along with images from the comic books
themselves, this film examines the degree to which early
Black superheroes generally adhered to common stereotypes
about Black men. From the humorous, to the offensive, early
Black superheroes are critically considered.'
This is a topic that definitely could use more discussion
and exposure and it's good to see something like this out
there. If you're in Nashville, Tennesee you can hopefully
catch this documentary during the International Black Film
Festival of Nashville which runs until Saturday. And you
