French-Tunisian filmmaker Abdellatif Kechiche has now
gotten the opportunity to bring his film about the life
of Saartjie Baartman, more commonly(and in a bigoted
way)known as the 'Hottentot Venus' to this year's New
York Film Festival, which begins September 24th. To
date this is the first feature length film to explore
Baartman's life and she will be played by a newcomer,
Yahima Torres.
